Acts 13 in real life 1.26.09

Cyprus and the Bible!  "So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they [Barnabas and Paul] went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus...They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos." -Acts 13:4,6
Kendra and Bill are friends from the States, who now serve in Israel.  Kendra is the sister of my Dad's best friend, Tad (Hi Tad!)  It's such a small world.
This is the site of where the proconsul's palace was located.
Mosaics everywhere...this must have been one elaborate place of dwelling.
In Acts 13, as the story continued, Paul performed a miracle through the power of the Holy Spirit, which blinded the eyes of a false prophet named Bar-Jesus.
"Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord." - Acts 13:12
Kendra and Bill with Darlene.
It is so fascinating to watch the archeologists did up remains of the temple right in front of your face.  Everywhere you look in Cyprus is a historic site of some sort.  Darlene says that the deeper they dig, the further back in history they can find.
More mosaics.
Cyprus does not have animals like this, so it's believed that a world traveler must have designed these.
I can barely do a 'paint-by-number' - I would definitely NOT have the patience to make even just a square foot mosaic.
The Pafos Lighthouse still in operation today.
Windows, doors, and gates always grab my curiosity...which usually ends up in a picture.
One of many amphitheaters in Pafos.  If you're wondering why Pafos is sometimes written Paphos, let me tell you.  Paphos is the old spelling, and the European Union correct spelling is now Pafos.  Either way works.
Kendra and I play with the acoustics of the amphitheater.
Have you ever done this?  WOW!  The in-ear's at church can't even touch this.
I was singing 'Edelweiss' from the Sound of Music, then I couldn't help myself...a dance burst forth from my innermost being.  Nice picture Darlene!  You can see my reflection and shadow - crazy.
Pirouettes in running shoes on slabs of concrete makes for a fun challenge.
Kendra and Bill enjoy their time of refreshment.  Bill also has a passion for photography.
I'm so awestruck at God's perfect design of physics...That arch is held up by itself - good thing, too.  I wouldn't be so excited.
Bill and I discuss which is better, a Nikon or a Cannon.
I know what you're thinking...
Nope, it's the kitchen sink.
Sweet shot Darlene with the lighthouse in the background.
I don't know why I always end with a picture of me...me, meee, meeeee...
If you haven't heard of Brian Regan, look him up on youtube.
I would have no jokes, if it weren't for him.

Taebo, Dishes & Practice 1.09

Good morning...I'm sitting on my bed, listening to a teaching on Hebrews 13, enjoying the fresh air coming through my window.  I'm a little behind in updates - please forgive me.  Below you will see some photos of some everyday activities - enjoy!
Billy Blanks Taebo is on youtube, which is so great!  I usually go running or do this workout video for exercise.  The girls love to join in.
Speed bag...faster, faster...Kony usually steals the show.  His uppercut needs some work.
The girls got too warm in their footy PJs.
I think I've been fired by their ballet teacher - Emma hurt her knee while doing a roundhouse.  It's all in fun, but I don't think the girls will be joining me anymore.
Welcome to my office, the kitchen.
If you can't find me, look here or the laundry room =).
I'm kind of weird - I actually like cleaning and doing chores...ask my mom - I love and miss you mamma!!! (SOOOOO much!)
Worship practice before church one Sunday.  James is in the front row, and he runs power point for us.  Oh, look...Kony...
Since Ollie is a pretty busy guy with drum lessons, Greek lessons, skateboarding, and homework, we've had to just start practicing before church on Sunday mornings.  It works out well, since I started Greek on the only days he could practice.  God always blesses our practice time.

A Typical Sunday 1.18.09

Welcome to a Sunday Morning at Calvary Chapel Cyprus!
It is also known as Calvary Christian Church.  Service meets in our living room, as you can see here.
Saturdays are spent cleaning the house and preparing for Sunday morning.  I enjoy helping with this - I have my iPod, broom, mop, vacuum, and I'm ready to clean...Tim and I usually tag team the cleaning of the church area.  Darlene mans the kitchen and bathrooms.
Leia, Abby, and Emma help lead the motions for "Waves of Mercy."
I think the girls really enjoyed this - it was our first song of the set this morning.  Our fellowship loves to move around =).
Ollie, Tim and I have fun leading the song.
Lawrence, Paulette, Claire, Ricci, Sue, Allan, and John.
Sue and Allan get into the motions.
Little Emmanuella claps her hands with all of us.
Jump around...jump around...na, na, na, na, na, na, na...
Thank you David Crowder.
The whole crew!
It's such a blessing to be able to worship Jesus so freely!
God is so Sovereign in His perfect callings.  I'm thankful to be a part of this fellowship.
As you can see, I'm using Tim's guitar.  Mine is having technical difficulties.  You can pray that I can find someone that will be able to fix it.  Thank you.
After service, the girls put on a play for us.
This room is very multi-purpose...church service, dramas, ping pong, dancing, playing with Kony, tent camping (the girls had a sleepover camp out a few days ago), taebo workout videos etc...
The girls do such a great job writing the scripts and acting.
Emma and Leia played sisters who didn't want to share, and Abby helped them understand the importance of sharing.
Ricci and Claire - such a sweet couple!
Paulette and Lawrence enjoy the show.
A common 'after-church' activity.  The British call it table football, also known as fooseball.  From where you are reading this, you would be standing in the door way of my room.  That's kind of fun...Okay, thanks for coming to church and hanging out with us!  Lord bless you all so much.  Again, thank you for your continuing prayers for me, for my Visa, and for the work that Jesus is doing here.  God's purposes are perfect!  Love Lindsey

Capital City, Nicosia 1.13.09

A little historical fact for you...Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, is the last and only divided capital left in Europe.  The Turkish control the Northern part of the island - Greece controls the south.  Nicosia happens to be smack dab in the middle of the dividing line.
The hustle and bustle of everyday city life in Nicosia.
Darlene said that there used to be a wall connecting these two buildings, because this is part of the boundary between the north and south.  Now, it is open to travel through for shopping.
To cross to the other side, you have to have your passport.  We didn't this day, but hopefully, we can go back to cross into the Turkish side another time.
Turkey proudly displays their flag on this hill.
We were on the 11th floor of a building in an observatory.
There have been talks of reunification, but we shall see.  It will be interesting to see how Cyprus comes into play during these crazy times in the world.
Turkish land.
I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map...
Emma braces herself, while she holds up these extremely powerful binoculars.
Beautiful girls - behind them is a satellite picture of the city, used for a historical overview of how Nicosia became divided.
Too small for you to see...
...and it's all in Greek anyway, which I'll be able to understand soon (hopefully) - I started Greek on Thursday (1/15)!
This is my tour guide smile.  Hope you enjoyed the tour.
Again, I don't know what the deal is with this blue underline...oh well.
Thank you.  Good-bye now...good-bye.
